Katie + Drew: A Beautiful North Carolina Winter Wedding

If you’re familiar with North Carolina, you know that the weather can be a little unpredictable no matter the season. We might experience a 75 degree day in the middle of January or an inch of snow during late March. Katie + Drew’s wedding day was a little reminder, that we’re not in control of the elements despite our best planning. Originally planning for an outdoor wedding, Katie + Drew decided to move the ceremony indoors a few days before their wedding due to a dreary, wet forecast. Despite the gray skies and drizzling rain, this sweet couple didn't let a little rain dampen their wedding vibes—it turned out to be a beautiful February day!

Katie and Drew attended high school together and reconnected when the Army stationed him in Colorado, where Katie was living at the time. Colorado quickly became a special place to the couple when Drew proposed in Crested Butte over Christmas break in 2021. He planned a beautiful proposal along the mountainside, but thanks to a horrible snow storm, the proposal was more intimate at Katie’s family’s condo, with her parents and sisters to experience the unforgettable moment.

Dark greens, golds and crisp white was the perfect color palette for this elegant winter wedding. The bridesmaids, in dark emerald green chiffon gowns, were the perfect contrast against Katie’s classic, wedding gown from the Gown Boutique of Charleston. Her strappy bow back heels added a pop of hot pink against gray skies.

The ceremony was a mix of happy tears and belly laughs. And after sealing the deal with a kiss, Drew couldn't contain his excitement, letting out a yell as they strolled down the aisle. Their happiness was truly contagious, as the ceremony spot quickly transformed into a lively wedding reception, and once dinner was done, the dance floor was on fire! Between raindrops, Jennifer B. Photography snuck this sweet couple outdoors for some stunning wedding portraits. Drew and Katie's energy was contagious, and their wedding party kept the party rolling from the indoor wedding ceremony to the sparkler exit.

From unpredictable weather to heartfelt moments, Drew and Katie's February wedding was full of joy. Katie’s favorite part of wedding day was getting to marry her best friend in front of all their friends and family. She recommends that other brides and grooms remember to “have fun and not stress too much. There will be things out of your control (like the weather), but embrace it and be willing to make last minute changes. The day is over in a flash and you don’t want to think back on it and remember feeling stressed.” Rain or shine, love always wins!
