Ashlyn + Trevor: A Summer Barn Wedding
This summer our Barn was filled with love as Ashlyn and Trevor promised each other forever on July 20th. These two love birds met through mutual friends while studying at NC State.
The Proposal: Trevor was recently accepted to PA school, so Ashlyn and her dad worked together to plan a celebratory surprise party. Little did she know, Trevor had a little something up his sleeve as well. She invited their families to the cookout, but everyone was in on the plan. The real reason for the cookout? A proposal! Trevor pretended to be shocked when he arrived to the party, and when the time came to pray over the meal, Trevor stood up to speak. “Right there in front of all those who love us, Trevor got on one knee and asked me to be his wife,” says Ashlyn. These two are very family-oriented, so having their grandparents, parents and other family members surrounding them with love on that special day was priceless!
The Party: Ashlyn and Trevor wanted an elegantly simple and southern wedding. The cheerful color scheme brought summer inside the Barn this July. The couple exchanged vows in front of the towering fireplace covered in wild flowers of blues, pinks and corals. Bridesmaids wore dusty blue, chiffon, floor-length gowns while groomsmen were in tan suits and blue bowties (a tan bowtie for Trevor).
The ceremony was so sweet, and guests were really patient when cocktail hour was moved inside due to an afternoon storm. Although, afternoon storm is quite the understatement; this storm boomed thunder, wind swirled around the Pavilion, and rain came down in buckets, but that couldn’t stop this couple from smiling.
When asked about their favorite memories from their wedding day Trevor laughed remembering the rain. I had the pleasure of spending time in the Barn with vendors and the Groom – he was calm, happy, and knew no matter the weather, he’d have his bride by the end of the day. Ashlyn’s sweet, carefree nature really shown through during the storm: “I think couples sometimes worry so much about bad weather ‘ruining’ their big day, that they forget how nice it can be. The whole day was amazing, but the rain was a pretty cool touch. It may sound strange, but it gave us time to pause, sit back and breathe. I wasn't a bit worried about the weather or what it meant for the ceremony because all I was thinking about was marrying Trevor. It really solidified for me that our day had nothing to do with the planning and decorations and all the little details. It helped us really focus on what really mattered. We've never been ones for fretting the small things, so the storm was a little reminder to stay true to us and let our wedding day be a reflection of how we want to tackle life together - grateful and with smiles on our faces.”
The storm ceased just before guests arrived, and a little damp ground couldn’t stop photographer, Megan Morales, from capturing some gorgeous shots of the bride and groom around the Farm. One of our favorite parts of the Beasley’s wedding day was the sweet tribute to their furry pals. Guests packed biscuit baggies for their own doggies to take home in celebration of these two tying the knot. Fun fact: Ashlyn is currently finishing up Vet School at NC State, so her passion for pets runs deep!
Advice to Future Brides & Grooms: Ashlyn and Trevor have spent almost three months together as Mr. & Mrs.! For couples in the midst of wedding planning, the Beasleys’ advice is “Don't sweat the small things! Do your planning and have things the way you like, but come wedding day, just roll with it! Things will go wrong, details will be lost, something will break, and you may even forget to put on your lipstick! But you won't remember any of that. Just take the day in and focus on the two of you. Everyone always says that wedding day will be over in a flash and they aren't wrong! Your reception will be a blur, but try your best to just step back and take it all in at some point.” As for vendor tips, their biggest recommendation is to splurge on photos and videos. Those memories are something that you’ll look back on for the rest of your lives, passing them down from generation to generation.
Thank you to all the wonderful vendors!
